To cut through the seemingly complex nature of personal finances, and shed light on only those ideas, products and services that are of utmost value and will better put you on your path towards financial independence.
1. Quality financial guidance and resources should be available to all and not dependent on net worth.
2. To truly take control of your own personal economy, you have to break away from conformity.
3. Establishing multiple sources of income is the best path towards financial freedom and security.
Hi, my name is Brent Sutherland. First and foremost, I am a self-professed money nerd. Not a day goes by where I am not reading about personal finance, listening to podcasts about finance, or digging into ways of enhancing my own household’s financials. Yes, it's a sad existence for some but I absolutely love it. Therefore, it only makes sense that I am also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and have worked in financial services for over 13 years.
My history with personal finance has been an ever-evolving journey. I steered the more traditional path until around 2013. This is when a frustrating event at work had me home punching pillows during my lunch break. Having others dictate my life is not what I wanted for the next 30 years! At that point I became rather obsessed with finding more intelligent methods of putting my money to work in order to take back control of my life. I wanted financial independence and the flexibility it allows earlier than age 60. Much earlier.
Today, I am a different man in a much different place. After altering my outlook on money, I now find myself in the drivers seat of both my finances and my life. This evolution was the result of some big changes. I sold my condo and became a renter, using that equity to boost my path into real estate investing. I shifted my savings and capital strategy to become an investor for today, not tomorrow. I started a business so I could better control my schedule and align my services with my beliefs. All the while, I've also found myself adopting a more minimalist mindset, favoring intention, experiences and true value over clutter and material possessions. It's been an exciting, insightful and fulfilling journey.
So my objective is to now help others to also challenge the traditional approach to financial guidance and thinking. I find that most often the simplest solutions and some outside the box thinking will better help individuals take control of their finances and design the life they truly want to live.

On a more personal note, I was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia, but now call the city of Pittsburgh home. I have a wonderful wife and a mischievous dog; and like to spend my free time traveling to new places, visiting with family and friends, driving myself a bit insane over Virginia Tech sports, enjoying any and everything off this list, and (of course) geeking out over the latest personal finance products and ideas. I am predominantly of British and Irish descent with a sprinkle of seemingly everything else under the sun.
Just because I am located in Pennsylvania does not mean that we can't be a team in this financial independence journey. I offer a one-on-one consulting option and am active on social media. Feel free to connect with me on your favorite platform, or by signing up for the newsletter at the bottom of the page.
